Makes some sense. Leave on your own terms while on top and if F1 doesn't work out, always can come back and pick up where you left off.

The Porsche group getting into WEC...
Hiring Luca D...
Skipping the learning pains of a new engine format and to see what works (think Honda with McLaren)...
I'm not going to lie, the clues are there.

This would be really lame.
Audi drives their car further in 1 race than f1 goes in an entire season. F1 tech is usually unreliable and can't be developed into anything for a street car.

This is my line of thinking. Why would VW field both Audi and Porsche in WEC? That'd be like GM fielding both Pontiac and Chevrolet in a racing competition... oh... wait...

That would be fine in my book. They clearly know how to win Le Mans. Let's have some real competition in F1. I'd love to see them use a diesel. It fits within the Green F1 ideals they currently have going.
Why not?

I was thinking instead of both competing, they use Porsche to keep a foot in WEC and roll Audi to F1...

Yeah, it would make sense. Audi's been the king of WEC lately but Porsche has so much more history there. As Porsche expands its brand (SUVs, sedans, pickups... etc.), it might have more to gain from sportscar racing (probably not). Let Audi go throw money at a F1 team (surely they'd partner with somebody).

I think it has a lot to do with seeing Merc's engine dominance, maybe it spawned a bit of an inferiority complex. I don't think Audi really cares about Ferrari, Renault, or McLaren because they're not really competition. Mercedes on the other hand are both a national and market competitor. I think the same would be true if BMW were still around and compeditive, especially if they were this dominant.

I could see that being a point of contention. Though I'm wondering how much longer F1 can sustain itself. I get that overall they basically print money, but what happens when more and more of your teams start bleeding out. Look at the LMP1 class in WEC. There will be basically two manufacturers next year if Audi is done and still just three if Lotus pulls off an entry. That's not a very diverse field.
Audi would be a boost to F1, but it's already down two teams for this weekend and it doesn't seem like either will make a return. And I know the vast majority of Ferrari will still be owned by the same people, but there's still a wild card that things could change drastically with it becoming an IPO.
